U.S. WW2 45th Division Patch

U.S. 45th Infantry Division shoulder sleeve insignia (design utilized from 1924-1939).  1930s era insignia.

The 45th division's original shoulder sleeve insignia featured the design of a swastika, which is a common Native American symbol. This was as a tribute to the Southwestern United States region which had a large population of Native Americans.  However, with the rise of the Nazi Party in Germany, also with the utilization of the infamous swastika symbol, the 45th Division stopped using the insignia and switched the design to a Thunderbird in 1939 (another Native American symbol).
