U.S. Civil War Tintype - 1/6 Plate 

U.S. Civil War Tintype of three soldiers in case. A lot of wear to the tintype image in the center area. Leatherette case in average worn and used condition with two latches on side.  Case is unmarked on interior underneath picture insert area.  Size of image is a 1/6 plate, size about 3 1/4" X 2 3/4".  The tintype saw the American Civil War come and go, documenting the soldier and different battle scenes. It also captured scenes from the Wild West. The tintype is a photograph made by creating a direct positive on a thin sheet of metal coated with a dark lacquer or enamel and used as the support for the photographic emulsion. Tintypes enjoyed their greatest use during the 1860s and 1870s.
