U.S. Civil War Token - My Office 1863

U.S. Civil War Token 1863.  Worn and uesd condition. Redeemed at My Office 1863 version. On the other side has info of Oliver Boutwell Miller N.Y. with small hole punched through for hanging on necklace or chain.  Civil War Tokens appeared in the early 1860s because there was severe shortages of U.S. government issued coins.  Regular cents of that era were strongly hoarded, so private individuals started making small copper coins to meet the demands of local  commerce. The government caught up eventually, and Civil War Tokens disappeared after supply caught up. These interesting Civil war token have a nice collector following today and are a nice character item from the U.S. Civil War.
